Your impact.
Cancer Council SA is South Australia’s leading cancer charity working across every aspect of cancer. Thanks to the ongoing support and generosity of the South Australian community, we are able to work across prevention, support and research to reduce the rate and impact of cancer within our communtiy every day.
It takes all of us to tackle cancer and, by registering for Ride for a reason, you're helping raise the vital funds that make all of our supports and services, possible.
Meet the people who count on your K's
Dr Paul Joyce
Cancer Council Beat Cancer Project Research Fellow from University of South Australia
Dr Joyce's research into a novel, nanomedicine approach has huge potential to change the side effects of cancer treatment.
“Most treatments at the moment attack every tissue or organ in the body. This means there's a lot of impact on healthytissue and many people end up with lifethreateing side effects. Sometimes people lose their lives not to the cancer, but the treatment itself."
With your help through fundraising events like Ride for a Reason, Dr Joyce can continue his work towards better treatments and improved survival for cancer patients.
“If we can deliver better, kinder safer drugs this way, there will be better patient outcomes and we can achieve much better long-term quality of life.”
Meet Steve
Cancer Council SA, Social Worker
Social Work is one of the vital services Cancer Council SA offers to our regional guests who have travelled to Adelaide for cancer treatment. Our team of social workers, like Steve, are on hand to to not only check in with guests who are feeling overwhelmed with their cancer experience but also provide information about services and offer a safe and confidental space to discuss soem of the issues a cancer experience can bring.
"As a Social Worker, my role is to recognise where people have barriers to getting help and assist them to both access availale supports and empower them to be able to seek these supports for themselves in the future.
When our guests stay at Greenhill Lodge they are not only presented with a variety of complex issues in addition to their cancer journey, but many of them are travelling to Adelaide with little, or no supports around them.
It is a privilege to support our guests during such a challenging time, and because of you in 2022/23 we were able to provide 27,900 nights of accommodation for our regional guests. It really does take all of us."
Amanda Robertson
Information & Support Manager
“To be diagnosed with cancer can be overwhelming and to know where to start, no matter who you are, or how cancer has affected you, Cancer Council SA's free and confidential 13 11 20 service is here to help.
We provide a listening ear, offer emotional support, help answer questions and also link callers to further information sources and a range of other support services and groups.
My role as Information & Support Manager at Cancer Council SA sees me work with and lead a team of qualified cancer nurses to best support people impacted by cancer.
Thanks to the fundraising efforts of people like you, we can keep our lines open and continue to be here for more Australians impacted by cancer. Last year, we were able to provide support and information to more than 5,000 South Australians. Thank you.”

Research
Nationally, we fund more cancer research than any other non-government organisation in Australia. Here in South Australia, Cancer Council’s Beat Cancer Project has funded more than 200 South Australian research initiatives across a range of cancers. With your support, we will continue working towards the next cancer breakthrough.
Prevention
We know that preventing cancer is one of the most effective ways of creating a cancer free future. Through your support, we are able to develop programs that encourage and empower people to lead healthier lifestyles to help reduce their cancer risk.
Information and Support Services
We offer a range of support services to all South Australians affected by cancer when they need it most. Last year alone, we provided information and support to more than 5,000 South Australian families through Cancer Council 13 11 20. Through your support we will be able to offer this vital service for years to come.
